Aaron Haas is an immigration lawyer in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard International Law Journal, in 2006. He graduated with honors from the University of Chicago in 2000. He grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, but now makes his home in San Antonio. From 2003 to 2005, he was a volunteer in the Peace Corps, where he served as a teacher in Bulgaria.
In 2006, he started working for the indigent as a staff attorney with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA), the primary legal aid organization in South Texas. At TRLA, he served on the Immigration Team, and handled a wide variety of immigration cases, including family-based petitions, deportation defense, and assistance to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
In 2010, he was awarded the Oliver Hill law fellowship at Washington & Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia. Washington and Lee is the 17th oldest active law school in the U.S. It was ranked the 24th best law school in the country by U.S. News and World Report and its faculty was ranked the 10th most influential in the country by National Jurist magazine.
As part of this fellowship, he founded a new immigration clinic and directed the clinic for three years. This clinic handled a wide variety of immigration cases, with many involving juveniles or refugees. He also published several articles on immigration law that were accepted for publication at academic law journals, and has spoken at conferences at several universities around the country.
He has presented oral arguments at the Board of Immigration Appeals in Falls Church, Virginia, and at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. He is licensed to practice law in Texas, and before all immigration courts and agencies in the country. He has been qualified to testify as an expert in immigration law. In 2010, he was appointed a member of the State Bar of Texas Committee on Laws Relating to Immigration and Nationality. He is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
In 2013, he returned to San Antonio and opened this law practice with his wife, Shannon Salmon-Haas. He lives in San Antonio with his wife and two children.
